Classes

What are Classes?

Classes are a place to enter your class list. Using classes, you can input all of your students' names and genders. This will allow you to input them once, instead of every time you generate a report.

Why Use Classes?

There are several reasons to use the classes feature:

  • Save time by entering your student's names and genders once
  • Avoid misspelling your students' names or picking the wrong gender when writing reports
  • Easily see which students you have created reports for, and which students you still need to complete

How Do I Create a Class?

Creating a class is easy:

  1. Click the Classes link on the top navigation bar.
  2. Click the new class button.
  3. Enter a name for your class.
  4. Optionally enter the subject and other details for your reference.
  5. Enter each student's name and gender.

How Do I Enter Students into a Class?

To enter your students into a class, you need to put their names and optionally their genders. Enter each student on their own line. Student names are required - enter them exactly how you want them to appear on your reports. Enter genders if desired for automatic pronoun selection.

For example, I might enter my class list like this:

Name Gender

Tips:

  • Double-check your spelling and genders for each class - if you do you can rest assured you will avoid spelling the student's name or selecting the wrong gender when creating reports.
  • Many schools have a student information system where you can download class lists. If you can do this you can simply copy and paste your students' names and then quickly add their genders.

How do I Generate Reports Using my Class?

Once you have created your class, and chosen a comment bank, you're reading to begin generating your reports. After opening The Comment Generator, click the "Select Class" button at the top of the page. A window will pop up, allowing you to select which class you want to use. You can also switch back to manually entering student names in genders from this window if you wish.

Once you have selected a class, you will notice that the area to type student names will be replaced with a list of the students in your class. You can select a student from the list, or use the back and forward buttons to navigate through your class list. If you specified genders for your students, they will automatically be selected once you pick a student. If you did not specify genders, you will be able to enter them as before.
